EVENT: SUNDAY JOYRIDE – BRUNEI RETROCAR

Good day everyone! This post is dedicated for our very good friends from Brunei Darussalam. Let’s start off with this mindset-changer B310, for those who are in dilemma of owning one. A very good example of proper restoration to refer with.

EVENT: SUNDAY JOYRIDE 2012

A silent morning at Peliau beach in Bekenu was a scene of excitement with the arrival of 34 classic cars of Oiltown Classic Car Club (OCCC) from Miri and Brunei Retrocar, with aim to raise fund for the less fortunate Palestinians in Gaza, as well as to strengthen the bond among classic car enthusiasts.

EVENT: SUNDAY JOYRIDE ON THE NEWS

Here we go again, our recent activity at Peliau beach has been featured in Sin Chew Daily. Below is the translation in Bahasa, thanks for the effort Mr. Jong Chee Ming.

DIY: COROLLA E2 FRONT PCD CONVERSION GUIDE

Finding it difficult to find retro wheels? Can’t fit in the wheels to the hub? These are the complaints by second-generation Corolla owners such as KE20, KE25, KE26 and KE28 (and other T-models). Gifted PCD110 by engineers in 1970s, it  is a nightmare to the owners. I keep on questioning myself why did the engineers differentiate the pcd110 on Corolla KE2x and PCD114.3 on ultimate Corolla TE27. Why don’t they make it PCD114.3 for all models. In the end, we have to find a solution rather than making a guess.

SPOTTED: HEAP OF GLORY - A GEMINI

Let’s call it your lucky day when you found a platform that is only in handful units in the land of Headhunters. On the other side, I had my precious time in West Malaysia counting few units finely-restored Gemini. Hopefully they were not dumped at scrapyard due to parts limitation few decades ago in Borneo. A message to the owner, please bring back this old chap in action!

Bye.

FEATURE: CALL ME BUGGY

An unplanned trip had brought me to this beauty during my study life in Selangor, which was nicely parked in front of the faculty. To be specific, it is 1967 BMC Moke Convertible. From my observation, this 50-year-old body shell was still great and no major rust can be found. A very ideal platform for weekend leisure; drive straight to nearby beach with your Rayban on, roll down the top and enjoy evening breeze.

SHARE: CHASSIS PERFECTION

I am eager to share this superb condition chassis of Corolla KE25, owned by a lucky guy Lee who just bought it from a very good friend in Sibu. Not even a single layer of putty can be found, which it can go bare metal and yet still in a perfect shape.

SPOTTED: COOL CORONA

Every time you spotted a classic Toyota bearing Sabahan registration number, you can make a quick guess that it is no more powered by a factory-stock engine. Last Friday had proved my sixth-sense when I saw this Toyota Corona RT80 sitting on nice pair of retro wheels, bigger exhausts and what is more attracting, it’s got an ‘olskool.org’ (currently known as olskool.my) decal. A few minutes of waiting had brought me to the owner, who is a nice guy from Sandakan and dumped in a Toyota A-series Twincam engine for his RT80. Glad to meet you bro, keep up the oldskool spirit!

SPOTTED: A BRIGHT SUNNY DAY

One bright day had brought me to this ultimate second-generation Sunny in Datsun family, which is specifically called Datsun Sunny KB210. The liftback form is really eye-catcher, in which also aids the aerodynamics of this chassis for the sake of speed. One cannot deny that it is one of awesome engineering creation in late 70’s, and you won’t get bored watching it all day long. For your information, the KB210 can only be found in handful units in Malaysia, and this is the only one in Oil Town, Miri. Do not ask me whether the owner intended to sell this beauty or not, because I strongly believe that you can only buy it in your dream.

SPOTTED: NON-COMPACT DAIHATSU

Another handsome Charmant in town, driven by a mechanic. A stock body, slammed suspension and deep-dish vintage wheels is always a recipe for success when it comes to old Daihatsus like this Charmant.

SPOTTED: IT'S ME FORTY

Talking about Starlet family in Toyota, we were usually exposed with KP30, KP60/61 and FWD EP series. A bright day had brought me to this superb condition P40 Starlet/Publica, which I believe it just stepped out from paintjob garage.

SNAP: SPICY PEANUT

Who says a four door sedan ain't sexy and adorable? You are going to change your mind after seeing this pristine second-generation Corolla KE20. It looked kinky in red, shiny chromes all around and sitting on 12-inches steel wheel, complete with wheel cap. Too bad this KE20 lost its OEM fender side mirror and fender antenna, else it looked like it just stepped out of the dealership in 1970's.

EVENT: A GREAT WEEKEND IN PUTRAJAYA PART 1

In Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, the last weekend of May is about Millions of Youth Gathering, and most importantly for me, they organized a classic car show and invited Royal Selangor Club members to cheer up the moment with their precious rides. This time, lets approach things a little differently with more classics from west side, starting with this solid red MGB Roadster convertible.

GATHERING: RANDOM SNAP AT MAYDAY THIRD ANNUAL MEET

This is the continuation of the previous coverage, the Mayday Third Annual Meet 2012. More number of cars and two-wheelers, but the number of drivers remains the same. That means? I leave the question for you to make a quick guess.

SNAP: MILLIONS OF YOUTH GATHERING IN PUTRAJAYA

Just a teaser... Buckle up and get ready for more amazing rides soon!

GATHERING: MAYDAY THIRD ANNUAL MEET

While some of people from West Malaysia were busy catching sideways action of Formula Drift Malaysia 2012 at Speed City KL, the OCCC members could not missed up to have the same 'havoc' in Borneo. This event was actually held to celebrate third anniversary of the club, kinda surprised to know the truth that two sweet years had passed, with the increasing number of members and rides.

EVENT: RANDOM SNAP AT MIRI BIKE WEEK

Some sneak peeks from last event, let's enjoy the pictures from Asrol Ardi's lens. Starting from this orange TA28, I won't get bored sitting at the corner the whole day and enjoy this view.

EVENT: MIRI BIKE WEEK 2012

One of the most happening annual event in Miri was held last weekend, the Bike Festival and OCCC was invited to spice up the moment.

SPOTTED: SWAN CITY HUNTING PART 2

'Poison' mode again, this is the predecessor of Part 1 and I am gonna start with this Corolla KE20 2 door sedan. A good alternative for KE25 (Mango) and undoubtedly, I started to fall in love with this model.

Wednesday, 9 May 2012

SPOTTED: SWAN CITY HUNTING PART 1

I do love hunting oldskool cars whenever I reach new places, since they are packed with some nice cars that may not be found at my hometown. The first car that caught my eyes from last vacation; this Celica coupe on Magnum wheels, next to a workshop.

FEATURE: WONDERFUL WOLSELEY SERIES II

Never heard of Wolseley? Neither do I. Came across this beauty while transporting a cousin of mine to a car dealer in Borneo. This model was actually a joint-venture of Wolseley and Morris Minor, and was released in 1960 with a large B-series 1500cc engine.

SPOTTED: DRAGON IN WHITE

Oldschool Celica Liftback anyone? This particular generation is pretty rare in Malaysia, not to mention in Miri. I have only ever seen a handful of these in town. I took these pictures long time ago in Miri and just discovered it in my old hard drives.

SPOTTED: FABULOUS STEELIES

Just another B210 in town? Wait, its got deep offset OEM steelies and I have to admit that Datsun designers did a great job in styling the shape of this car, which is so muscular looking. Looks like the owner enjoyed his weekend by rolling around in his Datsun.

Sunday, 15 April 2012

SPOTTED: CROWN CORONA

A trip to Batu Caves brought me to this TT141 Corona and it looks like the owner had put a great effort to keep this car in this amazing condition. Undoubtedly, it looked like it just stepped out of the dealership!

SNAP: RETRO MAG

How often do you find a pure retro car magazine in Malaysia? A lucky day brought me to this magazine which is owned by a friend of mine. I spent more than 2 hours enjoying the pictures and articles (even though I do not understand Japanese language) featuring Celica RA27/8, Levin/Sprinter Trueno TE27, Skyline KPGC10, KGC10, RX3 and many more. How I wish local bookshops can import these kind of magazines.

MEMBER: INCREDIBLE ROLLA

During my primary school, there was an uncle who is a close friend to my father; and he sometimes helped to pick me up from school. That time I was noob about cars, but I can only recall it was an old Corolla based on the trunk badge. I think that was the moment that I gets started to admire second generation Corolla models, after I took a ride in my uncle’s yellow KE20 Sedan 4 door.

Friday, 30 March 2012

SPOTTED: UTE FEVER

I know it is Pickup/UTE season where most of old-timers are looking for a platform to start with, since OMG 2012 (Olskool Mega Gathering) is getting closer. Meanwhile in KL with heavily congested traffic Saturday night, this lucky guy made every oldskool enthusiasts out there envy, by driving around his Mazda 1300, which was sitting low on SSR Casablanca. Nice ride man!

TT EMBUN

It is Friday again and we had a usual weekly gathering, managed to take some professional photoshoot session by Asrol Ardi (KE70 Coupe). I really admires his awesome job and the sets look stands out even at night. Kindly take your time and enjoy these photos.

FEATURE: JY'S HYPER LEVIN - BUILT FOR RUN

If you guys wondering why I am so deeply into second generation Corolla Coupe (Mango), so this is the answer. This was the car that made me fall in love at first sight, and eventually this was one of the car that influenced drag scene in Miri few years back.

Thursday, 22 March 2012

SPOTTED: CLEAN STOCK A40

During the last holiday, this was the car that catches my attention as I had to make a U-turn to get a closer look. As I approached the car, I was really impressed with the condition of this Celica A40 which is still in stock form, except a set of nice Magnum wheels which makes it 'tougher'

Friday, 16 March 2012

INFO: E IS ENOUGH

This is a good info for classic car drivers since we do not have specific fuel consumption meter. However, it is better to keep your tank filled more than half most of the time to reduce the fuel evaporation process.

Wednesday, 14 March 2012

LINK: 0-4FACTORY 510 DRAGSTER

I came across this monster project on 510 Coupe chassis, which was totally built up from the ground and reinforced with spaceframe chassis to break the quarter mile record. Start drooling here.

Thursday, 8 March 2012

FEATURE: FAIZ'S WICKED SR70

If I recall the yesteryear moments, this is the car that has a big impact in our study life. Started its life as an ‘uncle’ car after being swapped with a Corona TT132, Faiz decided to send this precious for chassis and panel restoration few months later. Since then, this KE70 DX spent more than a year in Banting for body restoration. It was a long journey where we had to drive few times from Malacca to Banting to catch up with the restoration progress.

Wednesday, 7 March 2012

SPOTTED: KEI ACTIVITY

Pickup truck by Honda? Yes it is. If you wondering, this Japanese automaker who is a success in producing sedan cars, used to come out with their kei trucks in 1977, the Acty.

As OCCC celebrates its third annual event, we would like to invite all classic Japanese car enthusiasts to share classic love here in Miri. Please join us and be part of Japanese car history.

Saturday, 3 March 2012

SPOTTED: FORGOTTEN LIFTBACK

Who like an A40 liftback? Please raise your hand, honestly. I bet only 1 out of 10 oldskool Celica lovers is interested on this model. It is truly forgotten, due to its 'uncle' design in stock form. But, the owner of this A40 should be proud to own this masterpiece, which is still in a perfect shape and line. Only the replacement of broken right tail light will be a nightmare.

FEATURE: HOMOLOGATION GTX

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of Mazda (excluding the RX series), but this 323 GTX really caught my attention during the last celebration visit. It is the fifth generation of Familia/323 for Japan market with B6 engine producing 140ps under the hood. Quite a surprising horsies for a sedan in 1985 right?

Tuesday, 28 February 2012

SPOTTED: RX-J 1300

Another heartbreaker, and do not get me wrong, RX-Jumbo seems OK for this cute little sedan and with the badge bearing '1300', you know it means power, speed, and business for this compact sedan.

Monday, 27 February 2012

WEEKEND AT PUSTAKA MIRI

Another great event was held at Pustaka Miri, the 'Getting to Know Borneo Tribal Tattoo' and they invited OCCC to join the carnival. It was a great chance to expose this club to the society.

Saturday, 25 February 2012

SPOTTED: WAGONIZER

Spotted this beauty in her perfect condition. Daily driven by a mechanic and we know why oldskool enthusiasts are craving for this model, as the experts also prefer this 808 wagon.

Monday, 6 February 2012

SPOTTED: EMPTINESS

Found this perfect shape Corolla KE74 lying at the roadside. How could the previous owner scrapped this beauty.

Thursday, 2 February 2012

AUTOMOTIVE STYLING: CORVETTE STINGRAY

Let's get to know how Automotive Styling in past is adapted in designing a car. This study was prepared by me in 2009, to analyse the motive of a car design. For example, stingray for this muscular 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

OCCC MEET 2012 MEMBERS EDITION

Last event gathered 19 members of OCCC at Taman Selera, Miri and we had a long day of full excitement. This was our first attempt to organize such event and it seems worked as planned. Congrats to all OCCC members!

Tuesday, 31 January 2012

SPOTTED: MR. BUG

It is not that sporty, not that aerodynamic. But this is the car that created a fenomena around the world. Everyone loves this uniquely designed Volkswagen Beetle.
